Preparing for NZ Open – spee kin key wee

As I have been playing croquet in different parts of Australia I have found it is a good idea to acclimatise myself as best I can in order to perform at my peak and not get any strange surprizes from the locals. For example, prior to playing in Tasmania my diet included James Boag beer and King Island Cheese, to which I partly attribute the success of making the Australian Mens final.

With this in mind, I have commenced trying to master the local New Zealand lingo to improve my results in the centenary of the NZ Open.

After completing a rendition of jungle bells I travelled to Milburn to play in the Victorian open and since then have been practicing sex times a week. Upon returning to Wagga Wagga my mcKennock did a tin thousand km service on  my car as I did my washing and used pigs to hang my clothes.
My diet includes  munnwe stroney, and fitta cheney, along with warm chuck and ever coadeau  salad.
As there is no brudge to New Zulland I will have to go via earplane – a sivven four sivven on the way there, and a sivven sucks sivven when I return.

There are not any beers in New Zealand, but some people have bun button by small insects so I will peck some pissed aside; hopefully this will not cause any problems at beggage chucken as the earplane leaves at iggs ektly sex pissed tin.

Junie Clark, a whomin with fear hear, has told me the lawns will be first and duffy cult. I amejen that this will be more of a problem for my inner me than myself. At least I have a good beard to sleep on at night after enjoying a sex pack with the other pliers.

I have been told some pliers from the nirth island have nasty hobbits like guess, so I will keep clare of them so I have frush ear.

Kip a close eye out for Tum and Jum in the dub ells, as wear hoping to stick it right up our inner mes.

No wurrys - I pissed

2011 Australian Men’s Final

The 2011 Australian men’s final versus Robert Fletcher.

2011 Australian Mens finalists
Jim Nicholls and Robert Fletcher

Was pleased that I didn’t feel any different or over-awed by the occasion especially this being the first time playing in front of a (knowledgeable) crowd. Won the toss.

Game 1.

Started the game with a super shot and got the first break after Robert missed the corner 2 double. Unfortunately I wired myself going to one back allowing Robert to make nine stop I missed the lift and lost the game 6-26tp. Continue reading

2011 Australian Men’s

Australian Mens, Launceston, Tasmania

Round one of the Australian men’s championship involved quite a long match against Dean Patterson. For some reason could get going but was able to graft out and win 2-0.

In round two had to play Pete Landrebe. Surprised myself somewhat and probably Pete as well with a 2-1 win (26tp-0, 0-26tp, 26tp-3). As an aside Pete is now my triple bunny, having tripled him three times in five games 🙂 Continue reading

2011 Australian Gold Medal

Sandy Bay Croquet Club, Hobart, Tasmania

First day of the gold-medal, not nervous and just taking in the whole thing of being part of the gold-medal and representing New South Wales. The support that I have been receiving via e-mails and texts has just been fantastic. Had a bit of a struggle in the early games against Don Close and Bob Bye, but was able to get through and win those. Missed a 5 yarder against Stephen Forster which was very costly. Had an epic game against Allan Sands, had trouble completing the Continue reading

Down to Tasmania

Having spent the last couple of weeks finalising moving and catching up on work; was great to head down to Melbourne and experience something different and board the “Spirit of Tasmania”. Dwayne McCormack and Alice were also on board. Was able to get some sleep are however not the best due to my land legs. Continue reading

2011 NSW Team practice and 3 & Under

Practice & 3 & Under

The final team practice before Tasmania was really enjoyable. In the “reserves” game against Pam I attempted a QPO, however missed the rover peel, letting Pam back into the game for the eventual win. Had a good session with Tim and Pete spending time on straight peels, rushing, leaves and tripling.

Day one of the 3 & Under I woke up a stiff as a board and exhausted. Kept missing to the left all day by 2 to 3 feet which resulted in only winning one game of the four played.

Day two was still very sore (will be off to the chiro as soon as I get back to Wagga) however was able to hit everything in the middle and played well with the best game being the last one versus Rosie.

Have really enjoyed being part of the team as reserve and involved with the practice sessions and having good hit outs in both the doubles and the singles. Really looking forward to heading down to Tasmania, representing New South Wales, and being able to catch up with Mum.
